Over the past few months we have discussed numerous ideas and innovations in the Drywall, Plaster and Faux industry.  We have pointed out the differences between plaster and drywall and the differences between the “Sheetrock” used for both products.  We have talked about the return of E.I.F.S. as an alternative look for the exterior of your home.   Now it’s time to bring everything together and let your imagination run wild.  There is no limit to what can be done to your home whether it’s a unique look for your ceiling, walls or fireplaces.

Some of the finishes we’ll talk about can be used both inside and outside.  There are now products on the market that can virtually take the place of stone and brick and you won’t know the difference.  So let’s start putting some ideas out there for you to think of.

A great finish that will highlight any wall inside your home is Lustrestone.  Lustrestone is a decorative architectural trowel-on coating which produces beautiful and natural reflective stone patterns.  It is available in over 40 colors.                                                  Highlight a wall or build a fireplace from a patented limestone plaster that can achieve a quarried stone look.  The limestone mineral in this product can be honed or polished to produce a natural stone finish, NOT a faux finish.   This system can also be used outside!

Get bold and start using “Venetian” plaster to embolden a wall or a room in your home.  Be sure to ask for Marmorino, Cerrera or Spatulata, not a cheap imitation.  These products will give you a high sheen that is unsurpassed in the industry.

For a subtle look, use “round” corner beads instead of the traditional “square” look.  This adds a “soft” look to your home without spending a lot of money.  Then take the next step in creativity by “layering” sheetrock to give you a unique and rich look at minimal costs.

To really make a statement, think about a “Dome” ceiling or “Curved” suspended drywall ceiling.  This will put your home in a class by itself.  If you really want to make it stand out, add fiber optic lighting to your “Dome”, “Curved” or “Tray” ceiling.

If you’re thinking of a “theme” room, that can be done as well.  Think about a tree in your home or a rock formation inside or outside to bring a look that people won’t be able to stop talking about.  Add the troweled-on coating that will take the place of wallpapers and give unsurpassed toughness and beauty.

Give a ceiling in your home the “Sky of Venice” look similar to Caesars Palace and The Venetian casinos in Las Vegas.  Pick a wall, column or fireplace to add the true beauty of MARBLE.  Finish up with a variety of “Faux” finishes, such as Aged leather, Animal Crackle, Copper Penny, Plastered Trompe L’Oeil  Brick and Stonewash or Venetian Gem.

Use any of the finishes we’ve discussed alone or better yet combine two or three products together to get an uncanny finish that only you will own.

As always, talk to your builder about your ideas.  If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to contact us at MasterFaux Art & Design, a division of Master Drywall, Inc.
